The 4th GENIUS International Invention Exhibition

Purposes:

  • - to establish business relations in order to put in use the inventions

  • - to improve the conditions of the independent inventors worldwide

  • - to attract the attention of the mass' media to inventing activities

  • - to establish and cultivate friendly relations among inventors

The growth rate of the Hungarian economy is the highest in Europe, and this is why the Hungarian businessmen will have an active interest in this event.

The previously organised GENIUS events in Budapest:

MAFE had organised GENIUS '96 International Fair of Inventions to commemorate the centenary of the Hungarian Patent Law in 1996. More than 300 inventions from twenty countries were exhibited.

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the creation of the International Federation of Inventors' Associations (IFIA), MAFE had organised First Inventors' Olympiad & GENIUS '98 International Fair of Inventions. Inventors participating in this event came from nearly fifty countries. Some fifty thousand people visited the exhibition.

2nd Inventors' Olympiad - GENIUS 2000 International Fair of Inventions had been organized on the Millennium of Hungary in 2000. About 400 inventions from twenty-five countries were exhibited.

Participation conditions:

Inventions can be exhibited only if they have been invented less than five years ago or were not used earlier than five years ago, independently of the patent protection form or the territory where the protection is in force. In this respect all technical creations are considered to be an invention, including new species of plants or animals and the computer software that have a strictly technical application.

Facilities and fees:

The entry-fee is HUF 12.500.- (included V.A.T.; USD 50) per invention for all participants, with the exception of IFIA members for whom it is free of charge.

Individual inventors and member organisations of IFIA are entitled to get a 2 square meters show area per invention (consisting of a wall, a table and a chair, as a minimum) free of charge from the organisers. 

For the other exhibitors the rental fee of a minimum show area of 2 square metres is HUF 45.000.- (included V.A.T.; USD 180).

The evaluation, the jury and the awards:

The inventions will be evaluated according to their inventiveness and possible future benefits (with weighting of 70 %) and to the quality of display and presentation (with weighting of 30 %).

The outcome will be decided by the organisers, and the winners will be selected in each section.

The winner in each section will receive a GENIUS Grand Prize; the other qualified inventors will receive GENIUS medals. 

The Sections of the GENIUS:

Inventions, grouped according to the International Patent Classification: 

  • - Section A-1: Human Necessities (e.g. agriculture, foodstuffs, personal or domestic articles)

  • - Section A-2: Human Necessities (e.g. health, amusement, sports, games etc.)

  • - Section B: Performing Operations, Transporting (e.g. separating, mixing, shaping, printing, transporting etc.) 

  • - Section C: Chemistry, Metallurgy

  • - Section D: Textiles, Paper (only one Olympian medal)

  • - Section E: Fixed Constructions (e.g. building, mining etc.)

  • - Section F: Mechanical Engineering, Lighting, Heating, and Weapons 

  • - Section G-1: Physics (e.g. instruments, photography, cinematography, musical instruments, nucleotics etc.) 

  • - Section G-2: Physics (e.g. controlling, computing, computer software that have a strictly technical application, educating) 

  • - Section H: Electricity

The prize-giving ceremony will take place on 6th of April 2002 at 7 p.m. at Eco-apartment House.

Application for entry:

The last date of submission is 9th March 2002.

The  reservations of the stands are provided and confirmed in the order of their arrival and, if no more places are available the latest applications will be rejected. Due to the high number of interested applicants it is recommended to submit the applications as early as possible.

 

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR OUR EXHIBITORS

Opening hours:

The GENIUS Fair opens on 5th April 2002 at 10 a.m. and closes on 7th April 2002 6 p.m. Opening hours: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Payment:

All fees (application fee, for renting, accommodation etc.) will be paid to OTP bank, account no 11710002-20008945 of MAFE or by cash at the office of Exhibition management.

 

Rules of exhibiting:

After the fees have been paid, the stand prepared by the organisers is available to the participant for his/her presentation. The exhibitor may not extend beyond the floor space rented and may only place his/her own advertisements there. Only one topic can be presented on a 2 sqm. stand space.

The working language of the Olympic Exhibition is English and Hungarian.

The decoration, advertisements etc. to be presented may only be placed on the designated surfaces (inner stand walls and frieze) by hanging. The use of any adhesives, stapling, drilling or hammering nails will damage the surfaces. The exhibitor must pay for the repair of any damage caused.

The exhibitor's objects may only be put within the floor space rented. The exhibitor's sound and light effects may only be effective within their own stand space without disturbing neighbouring stands. Smoking is only permitted at designated areas.

The stands should be cleaned by the exhibitors, the cleaning of the Hall will be provided by the organisers.

Guarding of the Hall outside of opening hours will be provided by the organisers.

 

Tools of display:

The installation of the stands are made up of 1 m x 2,5m wall units. Recommended poster width: 0,9 m.

The stands include lighting, the furniture (desk, chair) only and the electric sockets (220 V, 50 Hz, 1000 W)

 

Assembly:

The stands can be assembled on 4th April 2002 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. and 5th April 2002 from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. The Exhibition Hall is easily accessed by vehicles.

 

Evaluation:

The exhibits will be evaluated on 5th April between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.

 

Prize giving ceremony:

The Ceremony will take place on 6th of April 2002 at 7 p.m. at Eco-apartment House.

 

Dismantling:

All exhibited materials should be removed on 7th April between 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. The organisers may destroy all materials left there after this time.

 

Parking:

The cars of the exhibitors can be parked in the guarded area of Eco-apartment House. Parking ticket is 25 000 HUF (100 USD)/ 4 days.

USEFUL INFORMATION

Passport and visa

Foreign participants traveling to Hungary are required to hold a passport and except for citizens of most European countries, a valid Visa. Please check visa regulations between your country and Hungary when making travel arrangements. Visa applications can be obtained from Hungarian Embassies or Consulates.

 

Currency, exchange, credit cards

The official currency is the Hungarian Forint (HUF). The exchange rate: 1 US Dollar or 1 EURO is about 250 HUF (January 2002), which is subject to changes depending on the daily rate of exchange. Foreign currency can be brought into Hungary without restriction.

American Express, Visa, Dinners Club, Mastercard, Eurocard and others are accepted in most hotels, restaurants, and city stores, gas stations, but you should ask before ordering services.

 

Prices

The prices are generally fixed (included 25% V.A.T.), typical examples:

A cup of coffee or a Coke (automates): 100 HUF

Mc Donald's Hamburger: 200 HUF

A cooked meal (Self-service restaurant): 500-700 HUF

A tram, subway or bus ticket (in Budapest): 100 HUF

Petrol 95 Euroshell: 210 HUF/litre

Highway fee (M1 and M3): 1500 HUF (9 days)

 

Notice to drivers

The speed limit is 50 km/hour in villages and towns, 80 on roads and 120 km/hour on motorways. Hungary has zero tolerance level for drinking and driving. When driving in rural areas headlights must be turned on at all times and seat belts must be fastened.

 

Climate

The climate during April in Hungary is mild with temperatures around 10-20 °C.

 

Electricity supply

Electricity supply: 220 V, 50 Hz. There is a two pin connecting plug as in Germany, Austria but different from that used in some other countries.

 

Accommodation

 

The guest rooms for IFIA participants are flats (with bathroom without towels, and 2-4 beds with bed-clothes in a room).

There are almost two hundred hotels in Budapest. It is recommended to book the room before arrival, since there are a lot of tourists in April usually.
